On the (Roman) road again

We're wiping the dust off our feet from a week of travel with the Crofters down to Florence, Rome, and Verona.  The long version (and more pictures) will come in subsequent posts.  The short version is that we enjoyed Florence, appreciated Rome, and loved Verona.  Here's a brief overview:

We took a series of regional and bullet trains to Florence for a few days.  We saw some art, especially some sculpture (including the "outdoor" copy of David at Palazzo Vecchio), and enjoyed the architecture.

We took the new Roman road to Rome (i.e., the bullet train) to explore art and antiquities, including the Forum and Vatican.  We didn't enjoy the crowds and traffic so much, though I guess it makes sense that lots of other people also wanted to see the art and antiquities.

We left the Crofters in Rome (or they left us for other fun places) and stopped in Verona on the way home.  "Little Rome," Verona, has its own Roman arena (still in use, unlike its big brother the Colosseum), and some lovely and less crowded piazzas.
